About ATTAINING CREATIVITY...
Hello!
WHO: I am Pia f. Walker
WHAT: Owner of Attaining Creativity, artist of original pastel
drawings, and blogger
WHERE: My art is created in the Santa Cruz Mountains, California
WHEN: when not?
WHY: well, read on...
I've worked in the editorial
industry for my entire 9-to-5 career. Yet as far back as I can
remember, and in looking through my mother's collection of my
early works, I have always been drawing and tinkering with materials
in attempts to illustrate the world around me and the feelings
within me.
Through the years, I've
taken art, photography, and writing classes, picked up "hobbies,"
learning to hand quilt, knit, and crochet, and designed and created
greeting cards. I've designed flower and vegetable gardens and
cooked up recipes that required hundreds of ingredients and days
of preparations.
As an adult, my art and
all my creative endeavors have remained in the background of
my daily life. My accumulated craft materials have sat stored
in old chest drawers while my 9-to-5 life has dominated my life.
Yet that is not who I
am. I love to pull together fabrics, papers, paints, flower petals
and leaves, and place them atop my desk and see what beautiful,
artful combination will reveal itself. I walk around gardens
looking at the fallen flower petals and collect them so that
I may match their color, or imperfections, in a drawing. I anxiously
try new foods and wines so that their tastes will transpire me
into a land of memories and new cultures.
It is time to begin attaining
my own creativity, bringing it to the forefront of my daily life.
Attaining Creativity is designed as a showcase for my art creations.
My blog's purpose is to be a forum for sharing and discussing
attempts at attaining creativity, from my daily attempts to yours.
As to the lowercase "f"
in my name, I've had so many inquiries and comments about it
that it seems appropriate I explain it. In the most basic sense,
it stands for my maiden name. As to it being lowercase, it seemed
to match the spirit of my drawings - the simplicity of youth,
without rigidness or "adult" rules. While I may be
a full-fledge adult, married, the lowercase "f" represents
the child that remains in all of us, regardless of how old we
become.
